Story Points versus Function Points
This short paper explores two methods of measurement used in software projects – Story Points and Functional Size Measurement. It describes the two methods, providing examples of how each is used. The advantages of each method are discussed.
The choice of metrics can significantly influence decision-making and behavior within an organization. Therefore, it’s crucial to regularly reassess metrics to ensure they remain relevant and continue to drive progress towards desired outcomes. With this in mind, Story Points and Functional Size Measurement are rated for their relevance to “good” metrics (e.g., cost effectiveness).
