Non-Functional Requirements and ISBSG repositories: a new challenge for Estimators
by Luigi Buglione – DXC Technology/GUFPI-ISMA/IFPUG, Italy
“Non-Functional Requirements” (i.e. NFR) typically defines the “how/how much” the software will work.
NFRs are a changing and a challenging concept. From the mid-70s many “quality models” were provided trying to depict this fundamental aspect of software products, from the first Boehm’s models till the current ISO ‘SQUARE’ (ISO 25000 family of standards) and other ones as IFPUG SNAP (IEEE 2430:2019; ISO/IEC 32430:2021).
Of interest to estimators and measurers is to understand how to gather and use NFR-data to improve effort/cost estimations. ISBSG has repositories cater to this (e.g. many maintenance projects can size “Zero FP”).
