Industry Tools

The following tools have a facility to use or collect ISBSG project data, or data that are derived from the ISBSG repository. The ISBSG does not endorse or recommend any particular tool or tools. Other tool vendors who wish to collaborate with the ISBSG should email admin@isbsg.org

Comparative Estimating Tool

The ISBSG Comparative Estimating Tool is an MS Excel based tool that is used to generate estimates of software project effort, delivery rate, duration and speed of delivery. These estimates are determined from the averages of project delivery rates and speed of delivery for a selection of projects from ISBSG data deemed to be similar to the project for which the estimate is required. A range of estimates is provided: “Optimistic”, “Likely” and “Conservative”.   Click here for more information.

Download the free User Guide which includes a description of the estimating process implemented by the tool, and details on how to use the tool most effectively.

SEER® by Galorath

The ISBSG Corporate Subscription data can be used with SEER® by Galorath. From complex software projects to intricate manufacturing processes, Galorath's SEER suite of tools enable project managers, cost analysts and engineers to make timely, accurate and insightful decisions. Seer tools are powerful analytical tools that allow you to identify, evaluate and manage the complex array of cost, labour, schedule, reliablity and risks associated with an organisation's critical projects.   For more information contact Galorath

SCOPE Project Sizing Software

ISBSG Project and M&S Data can be collected and directly submitted to the ISBSG using the Total Metrics SCOPE Function Point Counting and Benchmarking software. The SCOPE Connect™ option enables online interactive benchmarking of your Project and M&S data against the latest ISBSG data set. Developed by Total Metrics, SCOPE 4.0 function point counting software collects ISBSG and IFPUG compliant metrics data.
SCOPE has a host of features including: accurate project functional sizing and tracking; quantitative profiling of your function points for estimating effort; multi-lingual interface; quantitative asset management of your software portfolio; portal analytics reporting; interactive online benchmarking against ISBSG data; and more than 70 different management metrics reports.

Trueplanning®

PRICE Systems’ Trueplanning® helps software managers achieve project success.  Trueplanning®, combined with the ISBSG database, can provide "true" view of software project costs, ensuring that cost and schedule estimates are realistic and based upon real program results.  Trueplanning® streamlines unbiased trade-offs among scope, schedule, and budget to provide decision makers with all the information necessary to plan and manage the development of complex IT projects.   The ISBSG data points can be imported directly into the Trueplanning® framework where our powerful data and analysis features can be applied to stratify data, determine trends and establish cost/effort estimating relationships.  A methodology has been created and automated that maps the ISBSG data items into cost drivers to facilitate calibration studies.  For more information, contact our Chief Scientist: Arlene.Minkiewicz@PRICESystems.com.

 Function Point WORKBENCH

Function Point WORKBENCH™ from CHARISMATEK Software Metrics provides a complete implemention of the Function Point Analysis technique for sizing, estimating and evaluating software. The WORKBENCH is specifically designed to be scalable for effective use by individual counters as well as for large distributed IT environments. It provides an ideal tool for all your software sizing needs including: software definition, project estimation, outsource management, benchmarking, project control and cost negotiation. The WORKBENCH provides complete support for the IFPUG and NESMA Functional Size Measurement Methods, generates a range of both individual count and portfolio reports, exports counts using standard XML and CSV formats and interfaces with leading software project estimation tools. The WORKBENCH's function point size Approximator utility draws on the ISBSG data which is also used in the WORKBENCH analysis reports

Function Point Modeler

Function Point Modeler™ now offers you the opportunity to import selected ISBSG data into the Function Point Modeler™ SLED in order to calibrate COCOMO based on the ISBSG data. Function Point Modeler™ is a state of the art tool for Function Point Analysis and Software Estimation and based on Eclipse platform. Function Point Modeler Enterprise™ is the only product on the market today that not only sizes software with Function Point Analysis or estimates software with COCOMO, but also manages all of the IT-Metrics (Project, Product and Process Metrics) of your company in a Software Life Cycle Experience Database (SLED). "For many years the lack of readily available benchmark data blinded software developers and managers to the real economics of software.  Now that ISBSG is making data on thousands of projects available to the software industry, it is becoming possible to make solid business decisions about software development practices and their results in terms of productivity and quality,  ISBSG data is a valuable asset for the software industry and for all companies that produce software.".
